This training covers the following mandates:
Constitutional Use of Authority, Legal Updates and Use of Force
This course is designed to meet the Mandatory Firearms requirements of Public Act 79-652 for police officers in the state of Illinois.  Officers will be required to score a 70% or higher on both the written exam and the range qualifications.
 
Each student must bring the following items to class:
  • Duty weapon, cleaning equipment, and leather gear (Weapons should be checked and in quality condition prior to class.)
  • 1000 rounds of factory ammunition (wad cutters permitted) ABSOLUTELY NO RE-LOADS!!!
  • Eye protection goggles
  • Ear protection
  • 12-gauge, pump-action shotgun (factory specs, no folding stocks) & 25 "00's" or "7 ½’s” and 5 slugs.
  • Flashlight (for night shoot)
  • Weather-appropriate clothing, as a great deal of time will be spent outside on the range, no matter what the weather.
 
The Springfield Police Department requires verification of LIABILITY INSURANCE coverage from any department utilizing the SPD firing range.  Please send a Certificate of Liability Insurance verifying the student is covered by his/her department.  One may be obtained from your insurance company.  Students will not be allowed on the range without this proof of insurance.
 
To Register:  Send the signed MFT Application Form along with a Certificate of Liability Insurance no less than 10 days prior to the start of class.  Departments registering municipal auxiliary officers must also provide a copy of their local ordinance, which states the municipal auxiliary officers do not have “conservator of the peace” powers and are thereby not required to attend a Basic Training course.  All municipal and county auxiliary officers must also submit a photocopy of their valid FOID card.
 
TUITION: FT, PT, & Municipal/County Auxiliary Officers from MTU #10 Local Member Departments = NO TUITION
All others:  $400.00
To Register: Email registration to register@letac.org. You may also fill out and submit our online registration form through the website at www.letac.org or call 217-726-7014 to register by phone (be sure to include all pertinent information). MTU #10 local member department officers will be given registration preference until seven days prior to the date of class. After that date, registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of MTU status. We cannot accept registrations from individual officers. All registrations must go through your Chief, Sheriff, or department training office, even if you are attending class on your own time.

Cancellation: If a class must be canceled for any reason, every effort will be made to do so at least 2 weeks before the class is scheduled to begin. However, there are circumstances where last minute cancellation is out of our control. All officers who have been registered for training will be contacted at the email address given at registration, so please be sure to provide an email address which is checked often
