YOU MUST TAKE DAY 1 ONLINE PRIOR TO ATTENDING DAY 2
COURSE OVERVIEW: The course will focus on response and investigation of sexual assault. The training will address trauma and the neurobiology of the brain. Rape myths surrounding sexual assault cases will be discussed and addressed. There will be a focus on what it means to be victim centered and trauma informed and how to conduct trauma informed interviews with victims. The training will also address defendant interviews and considerations when dealing with offenders charged with sex crimes and considerations in report writing. Investigation tips as to hospital protocol and the role of rape advocates will also be addressed. Social media and evidence gathering from the internet will be discussed. The training will stress the importance of being trauma informed, and victims centered to avoid re-traumatization of the victim.
COURSE GOALS: To educate investigators as to the complexities of sexual assault investigations, including: misperceptions about sexual assault victims & offenders which may make victims reluctant to report the crime; how trauma impacts the manner in which victims are able to report; how best to support sexual assault victims during their encounter with law enforcement & the criminal justice system; how to focus on offender behaviors & hold offenders accountable. This training focuses on conducting trauma informed, victim sensitive interviews, effective techniques for officer interviews, report writing, investigating digital & social medica platforms & a more in-depth look at the neurobiology of the brain that helps explain how trauma effects memory.

You may also fill out and submit our online registration form through the website at www.letac.org or call 217-726-7014 to register by phone (be sure to include all pertinent information). MTU #10 local member department officers will be given registration preference until seven days prior to the date of class. After that date, registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis, regardless of MTU status. We cannot accept registrations from individual officers. All registrations must go through your Chief, Sheriff, or department training office, even if you are attending class on your own time.
Cancellation: If a class must be canceled for any reason, every effort will be made to do so at least 2 weeks before the class is scheduled to begin. However, there are circumstances where last minute cancellation is out of our control.
